I always wanted to convert a bus myself but life took me on it's own strange journey you could say... I'm a single working dad so my time is somewhat limited but I will see what I can come up with... Writing and photography are two of my biggest passions at the moment...

In the meantime feel free to use that pic on your website if it is of any use to you... At that resolution it should be fine for web viewing... I've had a lot of comments from friends about that one... I took a couple similar just of the landscape with the powerlines glowing, which was the effect I was after... I was very happy with the result...

All I could suggest for that pic is a caption along the lines of...

"Out along the Murray Valley Highway, with the sun at their backs, travellers head towards Victoria's High Country for the long weekend in converted motorhomes"...

Might be a nice pic for the "Who's Travelling" page...

Thanks again...

Trevor Jackson...

I hope this is not going to bore you senseless, but as we are complete novices at both Australia and road vanning, here we go from the very start.

(1) We would like to get opinions regarding sightseeing, lookouts, van parks that accept Motorhomes (I understand there are a lot that do not).

(2)Trip planning, which way to go, clockwise or anti (I know this depends on seasonal weather).

(3) Work experience, length of stay, types of work

(4) Working Visas, as we intend to tour for approx 5 yrs with the (real) possibility of becoming permanent
residents.

This touring and working is a tough one to crack, as so far we have compilled a list of places we would like to visit. That hough, will depend on where the work is, and the work will depend on how much the roadvan costs and fit out. BUGGER.
Anyway we look forward to any assistance

For many of us/the great Australian dream is to buy a caravan/motor home and explore the outback of Australia. Some of us believe this will happen in the golden years, or when the kids grow up... or is it?  After some research I have found there is an increasing amount of Australians/travellers tired of the rat race and waiting for the golden years to roll by before they can experience their dreams.   Throwing caution to the wind, they have packed in their jobs, sold houses etc. and DONE IT!

The stories of joy, comedy and mishaps are treasures to behold and these will be shared on this website (e-mail us if you have any stories to tell).  So, the answer to the question who's travelling?  EVERYBODY!  That is, there is no set age group, marital status, gender or occupation involved.  I'll be bringing you stories of people in all of these categories to prove it.  One thing I think you will find, is that people DOING IT love the bush and adventure.  They become passionate about the outdoor life and encourage their friends and family to share in their experiences.  Indeed, many of the people I've spoken to, support themselves by opal/sapphire mining, bar and temp work along the way.

To start off our who's travelling documentary, we'll be covering the travels of twin sisters Patience & Katherine Shirley from Sydney, Australia.  The  girls are just 23 years old and have been saving for the past 12 months for a 6 month trip around Australia.  Their choice of vehicle is a blue and white bus with the number plates XPLORN (exploring).  Patience and Katherine will be e-mailing us from internet cafes around Australia to tell us of their travels.  Feel free to pass on tips to the girls along the way!  Click here to hear about the girls travels!

Jaime Lauria has recently visited the Apple Isle in a convoy of 4 motor homes. Click here to read her detailed report!

We are a retired professional English couple and we have just completed our third visit to Australia in the last 5 years.

In 2000, in 55 days, we bicycled 3,000 miles/5,000 km from Perth to Brisbane via the Nullarbor, Broken Hill, Tamworth and Toowoomba.

In 2002 we bought a pop-top HiAce-based campervan in Brisbane and drove it 16,500 miles/26,500 km right round Australia (anticlockwise) in 6 months.

In April of this year, we hired a Maui motorhome (based on a Mercedes Sprinter van) in Perth and travelled 8,500 miles/13,500 km in 3 months to Brisbane via Tasmania and Cairns.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Happy travels

Barry and Margaret Williamson

The adventure begins

The blue line shows where we went. Our journey began in southern Germany taking us over next two months through Germany, Austria, Italy, France, England, Scotland and Wales ending up back in southern Germany. Never been overseas before, never driven a motorhome, can't speak any foreign languages...doesn't matter! Just do it.
