TAS746(back)

Keeping in mind that motor-homing can take you over some pretty remote and rugged  (read: corrugated) roads, we paid special attention to the chassis , suspension and axles, but still kept the trailer as lightweight as possible; for that reason we decided not to put solid sides on the trailer, but only build a “nose cone” plus roof and  construct the frame in such a way that tensioned vinyl sides  could be added later.
So, we ended up with a 4 tonne spec  trailer on a 3 tonne tandem-axle chassis,  with electric (break-away) brakes on both axles and Toyota Landcruiser wheels with  tubeless Savero A/T  tyres.
She tows like a dream, is perfectly balanced and light enough to be pushed by hand  or towed by a small vehicle and makes an ideal work base when the work-table,  vice and awning are attached.
Because of the width of our motor-home we made the A-frame 1410mm; for ease of manoeuvring the trailer on-site it has a heavy duty swing-up jockey wheel.
It is a tilt- trailer so our Honda Prelude ( ground clearance 120mm) could get on and off without scraping her muffler.
The wheel-arches rise only 110mm above the deck, so car-doors can be opened easily; both wheel arches have aluminium checker-plate tread-plates on top and small triangular open bins welded between arches and trailer-sides.
The left-side wheel arch has mountings for a 18mm ply work -table and a vice; the vice’s mounting-plate is stored in the spare wheel well (vice itself not included in sale).
The lockable storage box in the front of the trailer(2080Lx470wx400h)holds almost a cubic meter: enough space for full size fishing/tackle boxes, motorcycle gear and helmets; there is an open bin on top of the storage locker, (2080Lx470wx270h) which was designed to hold our shovels, brooms, rakes, whipper-snipper and rolls of tarpaulin/ground sheets.
On the trailer deck  are 3 storage compartments: a deep open well for  camp chairs etc, a huge built-in, lockable tool box (1040Lx990wx270) over the axles, and a lockable aluminium checker-plate spare -wheel well  (1000Lx1100wx250h) at the rear of the trailer which , apart from the spare wheel,  can also  hold tools, bottles of oil, brake fluid, vice and vice mounting etc.
Under the roof of the trailer is a series of rod holders (4 on each side, attached to the side skirts) and a container for poles and other long items.
There are two smaller lockable aluminium checker-plate storage boxes on the A-frame, one for the battery for the 12V electric brake system, the other for tie-downs etc.

The paintwork is generally in excellent condition, with only normal wear and tear/some minor surface rust  on the  trailer bed  and ramps (from tyre friction) and  the top of the tool box, (from foot traffic and tools).

The trailer is currently in Tasmania; we could deliver it to the Devonport freight yard of the Spirit of Tasmania and would be happy to assist in the organisation of transport to Victoria.
With a Tare of less than 900 kg it can be towed by most middle size and large cars; our small Vitara has a brake controller and a heavy duty towbar fitted and  is legally allowed to tow and manoeuvre the trailer, which she does without any problems. (back)
